• How is the Eucharist the New Manna and New Passover?
• What is "The Bread of the Presence" in the Old Testament?
• How did the Early Church celebrate the Eucharist?

  • In recent years, Christians everywhere are rediscovering the Jewish roots of their faith. Every year at Easter time, many believers now celebrate Passover meals (known as Seders) seeking to understand exactly what happened at Jesus’ final Passover, the night before he was crucified.

Jesus and the Jewish Roots of the Eucharist shines fresh light on the Last Supper by looking at it through Jewish eyes. Using his in-depth knowledge of the Bible and ancient Judaism, Dr. Brant Pitre answers questions such as: What was the Passover like at the time of Jesus? What were the Jewish hopes for the Messiah? What was Jesus’ purpose in instituting the Eucharist during the feast of Passover? And, most important of all, what did Jesus mean when he said, “This is my body… This is my blood”?

To answer these questions, Pitre explores ancient Jewish beliefs about the Passover of the Messiah, the miraculous Manna from heaven, and the mysterious Bread of the Presence. As he shows, these three keys—the Passover, the Manna, and the Bread of the Presence—have the power to unlock the original meaning of the Eucharistic words of Jesus. Along the way, Pitre also explains how Jesus united the Last Supper to his death on Good Friday and his Resurrection on Easter Sunday.

Inspiring and informative, Jesus and the Jewish Roots of the Eucharist is a groundbreaking work that is sure to illuminate one of the greatest mysteries of the Christian faith: the mystery of Jesus’ presence in “the breaking of the bread.”

I picked up a whole new obsession!!!!

Someone gave me a paperback copy of this book and I just put it on my bookshelf and forgot all about it for months. Then 2 years ago something urged me to read about the Eucharist and remembered that I had this book. It was a cold and rainy day just before Lent. I got my pencil and an orange highlighter (a habit I have always had since my youth) and I opened and read, and read, then pondered, then read again, and then opened the Bible, then read and read and read. I literally could not put down this book!!! I read it in one day, cover to cover. Made lots of notes in the margins and cross referenced my bible to it. I was like, why wasn't this known to me???? My Lord! It really and truly is you in that Monstrance!!!! Ever since then I have been studying Eucharistic Theology and developed a strong devotion. I am now spreading this really great news to all Catholics in my parish. However, I now need a new book. Mine is falling apart. This next one, however, will hopefully be signed by favorite author, Dr. Brant Pitre!!!!

Jewish Roots of the Eucharist

I am a cradle Catholic. At the age of 14, I separated myself from Catholicism. 31 years later, I rediscovered my religion, due to missing the Eucharist. Dr. Pitre has deepened my love for this awesome Sacrament. I know see the Eucharist throughout Salvation History, as a 1st century Jew did! This is must read if you have doubts about the Real Presence. Dr. Pitre's easy to understand explanation will also help you to defend this Sacrament!

Amazing!

Jesus and the Jewish Roots of the Eucharist was easy to read and understand. I love the way Dr. Pitre explains what was going on in society during the time of Jesus and even earlier by helping the non-Jewish reader understand Jewish history. Dr. Pitre clearly shows the connection between our Jewish ancestors faith and our own Catholic faith. Thank you for your work!

It was great. I’m waiting for his book on the “Jewish Roots of St. Joseph”

I always enjoy the MP3’s I buy from Catholic Productions.

The Hidden King, The Jewish Routes of St Joseph

Well presented and extremely informative. Great insight into the true meaning of passages based on the traditions of the writers which explains their intent.

Brant does not disappoint!

Great resource!

I never knew so much about St. Joseph. Only Dr. Pitre can go so in-depth with so much passion, and bring out the best information, and present it in the most understandable way.
