St. Matthew’s Gospel was considered the most influential and popular book among the early Christian community. In this four part series, Dr. Pitre will explain why that is the case and how for the early Jewish Christians, in particular, St. Matthew clearly makes the case for how the long awaited hopes of the Jewish people are being fulfilled in Jesus. In this series, you will cover topics such as:
• Who wrote the Gospel of Matthew
• Why the long genealogy at the beginning of Matthew, which many Christians today simply gloss over, of vital importance to the Gospel of Matthew’s message
• How the Gospel of Matthew clearly makes Jesus out to be a new and greater Moses, David, Solomon, and Isaac
• The shocking paradoxes of the Sermon on the Mount and the implications of them for our spiritual life
• Aspects of Jesus’ infancy, public ministry, and last days in Jerusalem that show him to be the long-awaited fulfillment of what the priests, prophets, and kings of old hoped for
If you’ve ever wanted to learn more about main figures of the Old Testament and how and why they are relevant for setting the stage for Christ’s coming, then this study on the Gospel of Matthew is for you!
Dr. Pitre does a masterful job in this study of the Gospel of Matthew, my favorite. From the authorship to the messages, going through the messianic fulfillment, this is a study anyone is going to get a lot from. Highly recommended!
It was a great audio. Thank you!
Excellent information from Dr. Brant Pitre.
I have been a Brant Pitre follower since his book Jesus and the Jewish roots of the Eucharist. I use his videos and outlines for bible studies. It breaks my heart to have to write this review . Now after purchasing this video series ,"The Gospel of Matthew", I can only say how disappointed I am in its content. There are 28 chapters in this gospel, but only four subjects are covered. These subjects have been covered time and time again. This is just a rehash of older material without additional work on the Gospel itself. The New Moses, The new David and the New Solomon, this was very interesting in Dr Pitre other works, but the Gospel of Matthew is so much more and I was expecting so much more. If you read other books by Brant Pitre you will see for yourself how much of a retread this material is only presented to you under a new label.
The other point which I found disturbing was the constant sales pitch for other material to buy. This cost me 42 dollars for digital format and I can't use it for the purpose intended.
I will continue to be a follower of Dr Brant Pitre, he is a breathe of fresh air compare to many out there today, but that cant change the facts about this video series!
Great series, however disk four has some digital corruption in it where the disk stops as Dr Pitre is explaining two points not covered in the handout. I would like to know how I can get a new disk four? I can return disk four so you can see the problem if need. This is the only issue I have found so far, as I am still watching the remaining great material I have ordered from Catholic Productions. Keep this good stuff coming.
