Why do Catholic say that Mary was sinless, when the Bible says that “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”? And how can they believe that Mary was assumed into heaven, when the Bible says nothing about it? Most important of all, why do Catholics give Mary so much honor? Is the Catholic veneration of Mary really “idolatry”?

In this eye-opening presentation, Dr. Pitre shines the light of the Old Testament on Mary, the mother of Jesus. He shows how three ancient Jewish images help us to understand Catholic beliefs about Mary:

    1. The New Eve: If Jesus is the new Adam, then who is the New Eve? What are the implications of Mary’s identity as the New Eve for the dogma of the Immaculate Conception?

    2. The New Ark of the Covenant: If Jesus is the new Manna from heaven, then where is the New Ark? Dr. Pitre shows how Jewish beliefs about the lost Ark of the Covenant give profound revelations into who Mary is and her bodily Assumption into heaven.

    3. The New Queen Mother: If Jesus is the new Davidic King, then who is the new Queen? In the Old Testament, the Queen wasn’t the king’s wife, but his mother. Dr. Pitre shows how Mary’s identity as “Queen Mother” (Hebrew gebirah) is the key for unlocking Catholic devotion to her, and the difference between honoring Mary and worshiping God.

If you are looking to understand the biblical roots of Catholic beliefs about Mary, the Mother of God, then look no further: Jesus and the Jewish Roots of Mary is the perfect presentation for yourself or a friend or family member who wants to understand what the Bible really teaches about the Virgin from Nazareth.

Wonderful Presentation on Mary from Old Testament Themes

This presentation makes a persuasive case that Mary is fulfilling many themes from the Old Testament. Dr. Pitre, also, highlights that Mary is closely linked to Jesus as it relates to Catholic doctrine. Mary is honored, whereas Jesus is worshiped.

O Virgin Mary, deserving of all honor!

This is a short but packed study on the Virgin Mary. Dr. Pitre presented very well on Our Mother as the New Eve. Once you understand that, every other title and Marian dogma seems easier to grasp. It is amazing how you will love the Blessed Virgin Mother more after this study. My earnest prayer would always be:
"O Virgin Mary, Daughter of the Father; Mother of the Son, Spouse of the Spirit,
pray for us who have recourse to thee."

Highly recommended resource on the Blessed Mother....

As always, Dr. Pitre takes you on an in-depth study of the Jewish Roots of Mary. Dr. Pitre's love for the Old Testament is unmistakable. I have learned so much about the Old Testament from Dr. Pitre's work, that helped me learn so much more about what our Lord Jesus does in the New Testament. Highly recommended!

Comprehensive Look at Spiritual Theology

Good series of lectures. Mature look at prayer that moves beyond petitionary prayer.

Parcel still on tour.

My order was actioned promptly, is all I can say, so far. I watch the tracker as my books enjoy a leisurely voyage across various US mail stops, then around Asia; last notified leaving Narita Airport 2 days ago. I look forward to tracking them to the next point, wherever that will be, please God, it will be Auckland, NZ. and at last, to my small town. Then I can review!

The Dead Sea Scrolls and the Jewish Roots of the Church

I love it. Bergsma is a very astute historian yet had much devotion to the Lord. I am currently on lecture 3. So much to learn here...
