Great insightful read. Always good to have ancient Jewish perspectives. It bring clarity to understanding scripture.
For us as Carmelite Brides of Jesus, this book is amazing in the presentation of Jesus as THE BRIDEGROOM. Dr. Pitre's knowledge of Scripture and application in such a simple yet profound manner has helped us in our private prayer, community discussions and sharing. Every consecrated person should take this book as a companion to the Bible. It would open new vistas & depths of God's love in Jesus for every Christian
Everyday I say Jesus I love you but not enough. Brant Pitre reveals aspects of Jesus that are unique to me. You find yourself only loving Him more.
Easy read. Great book.
Fantastic just like all of Dr. Pitre’s books. I feel like I am really getting to know Jesus by looking at him with ancient Jewish eyes. It is a more intimate relationship because you have the family background. Keep writing because I am almost through your published works, some of them twice.
This book by Dr. Brant Pitre is unimaginatively insightful and helpful in deepening our appreciation for the beauty of our Catholic faith. After reading this book, I feel much more closer to Jesus in my personal relationship with him and am even more mindful of how faithful I should be in my marriage covenant with God in and through our Divine Bridegroom and Messiah. Until I read this book, my understanding of the subject was somewhat broad and general. But now I see how much I took for granted before I read the book. Dr. Pitre's treatment of ancient Jewish beliefs, customs, and symbols in connection with the New Testament is far more in-depth and comprehensive than what I have come across in other books written by Catholic scholars. Yet what the author rightly does, by also citing the Catechism and the Church Fathers, is bring to our attention what the Church has always believed and taught since earliest times, but has become buried in the minds of the faithful to a great extent. So, this book is a great wake-up call to Catholics like myself who have succumbed to a form of collective amnesia. This book is a treasure of faith which I'm happy and grateful to have found by the grace of God. I certainly give this book 5 stars and shall recommend it to other Catholics to help them better understand and appreciate their faith and non-Catholics who would benefit from discovering the truths of our faith and help clear up any misconceptions they might have,
