If you ask many Christians today, “Who is the Whore of Babylon?”, the first answer you’ll often get is: “the Roman Catholic Church!” Indeed, many Catholics have been attacked at one time or another by non-Catholic Christians who are convinced that the Catholic Church is indeed the Whore of Babylon described in the Book of Revelation.

In this important Bible study, that is similar to the presentation found in Dr. Pitre's larger set on Jesus and the End Times, Dr. Pitre takes you step-by-step through a study of the key passages in the book of Revelation that describe the Whore of Babylon, showing her true identity. Most Catholics are familiar with the “Woman Clothed with the Sun” in Revelation 12, but are baffled by the “other” woman in Revelation: the Whore of Babylon. In the course of this study, you will explore the following topics:

    • What clues does the Old Testament provide for identifying the Whore? What city is referred to as a “harlot” in the Old Testament prophets?
    • What clues does the Book of Revelation itself provide for identifying the mysterious Whore? What is the historical context of St. John’s prophecy?
    • What does Revelation mean when it says that the Whore is “the great city”? What city is “the great city” in the book of Revelation?
    • What does it mean when Revelation says that the Whore was “drunk with the blood of both the “prophets” and the “martyrs”? What city does this apply to?
    • What is the relationship between the burning of the Whore by the Beast and the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 A.D.?
    • Why is the destruction of the Whore of Babylon followed by a “New Jerusalem” coming down out of heaven from God?
    • What is the spiritual lesson of God’s judgment on the adulterous city?

As Dr. Pitre will show, when interpreted in light of the Old Testament and the clues found in Revelation itself, the infamous whore of Babylon is certainly not the Catholic Church, but an apocalyptic symbol for “the great city where their Lord was crucified” (Revelation 11:8).

Talk was great….

I doubt this is the proper place to report this… but yes, I ordered THREE copies of this lecture… when only one would have sufficed. I know it is probably user’s fault, but… anyhow...

Who is the whore of Babylon?

Great exegesis of the book of Revelation! Not only Protestants believe the whore talks about the Catholic Church, the orthodox and even Sedevacantist thinks that too of the church. While it is true there are sinners and infiltrators existing within the Church (prophesied by Jesus in Matthew 13:24-30), the Catholic Church as a whole, founded by Christ himself is not the whore, but the bride which also produces martyrs and saints to be with Him, Christ. Thank you Dr Brant Pitre for pointing that out. PS for those in schism, especially the Sedevacantist, DO NOT GO OUT (Matthew 24:26) for Christ will not return from the wilderness but to His Temple which He has established on earth.

Pitre does a great job

I like all of Pitre's lectures and have gotten a lot from them. This one is very good and useful for explaining this puzzling passage in Revelation. I thought he did a thorough job.

Who is the Whore of Babylon?

I totally enjoyed the explanation, especially since I was unaware that we as Catholics were being called the Whore of Babylon.
