St. Matthew’s Gospel was considered the most influential and popular book among the early Christian community. In this four part series, Dr. Pitre will explain why that is the case and how for the early Jewish Christians, in particular, St. Matthew clearly makes the case for how the long awaited hopes of the Jewish people are being fulfilled in Jesus. In this series, you will cover topics such as:

    • Who wrote the Gospel of Matthew
    • Why the long genealogy at the beginning of Matthew, which many Christians today simply gloss over, of vital importance to the Gospel of Matthew’s message
    • How the Gospel of Matthew clearly makes Jesus out to be a new and greater Moses, David, Solomon, and Isaac
    • The shocking paradoxes of the Sermon on the Mount and the implications of them for our spiritual life
    • Aspects of Jesus’ infancy, public ministry, and last days in Jerusalem that show him to be the long-awaited fulfillment of what the priests, prophets, and kings of old hoped for

If you’ve ever wanted to learn more about main figures of the Old Testament and how and why they are relevant for setting the stage for Christ’s coming, then this study on the Gospel of Matthew is for you!

So many of my questions have been answered. I can't wait to dive into further content from Professor Pitre and Catholic Productions!

A wonderful journey

I was led by Dr Pitre to read the Gospel of Matthew through a whole new perspective, a pair of lenses in its Jewish context and was enlightened that Jesus was presented as the New Moses, the New David and the New Solomon. It is such s great journey! This help me greatly to understand the ministry and the life of Jesus.

Phenomenal

This is a wonderful summary of the Gospel of Matthew via the evangelist’s portrayal of Jesus as the fulfillment of these major Old Testament figures. Dr. Pitre gives a great outline that will help anyone seeking to understand Matthew’s Gospel and its essential, illuminating Jewish roots and identity.

The Gospel of Matthew

Once again we're amazed at how little we know! Norman 85 (a retired Anglican Priest) and I 76 (daughter of a Presbytian Manse until marrying) have been worshipping and studying all our lives. We have never been taught the amazing connections of Jesus in the NT to those in the OT. Our hearts, minds and faith have been strengthened through the lectures/studies of Dr Pitre. Words cannot express our gratitude. May our ever loving God continue to bless you all.
