In recent years, Christians everywhere are rediscovering the Jewish roots of their faith. Every year at Easter time, many believers now celebrate Passover meals (known as Seders) seeking to understand exactly what happened at Jesus’ final Passover, the night before he was crucified.
Jesus and the Jewish Roots of the Eucharist shines fresh light on the Last Supper by looking at it through Jewish eyes. Using his in-depth knowledge of the Bible and ancient Judaism, Dr. Brant Pitre answers questions such as: What was the Passover like at the time of Jesus? What were the Jewish hopes for the Messiah? What was Jesus’ purpose in instituting the Eucharist during the feast of Passover? And, most important of all, what did Jesus mean when he said, “This is my body… This is my blood”?
To answer these questions, Pitre explores ancient Jewish beliefs about the Passover of the Messiah, the miraculous Manna from heaven, and the mysterious Bread of the Presence. As he shows, these three keys—the Passover, the Manna, and the Bread of the Presence—have the power to unlock the original meaning of the Eucharistic words of Jesus. Along the way, Pitre also explains how Jesus united the Last Supper to his death on Good Friday and his Resurrection on Easter Sunday.
Inspiring and informative, Jesus and the Jewish Roots of the Eucharist is a groundbreaking work that is sure to illuminate one of the greatest mysteries of the Christian faith: the mystery of Jesus’ presence in “the breaking of the bread.”

Long have I had and worn out the CD with his oral presentation of the subject. The book brings the studied thought and research we should all long for in understanding our religious practices. St. Pope John Paul the Great's legacy of Faith and Reason lives in Dr. Pitre's work.
This book completely blew me away. The level of understanding the Eucharist that this gave me is just incredible. Amazing insight into every aspect which will clear up every question you could have about the establishment of the Eucharist and what it meant to the Jewish people of the time. It honestly answered questions that I didn't even realize that I had. This should be a required reading or any Catholic. Outstanding.
There is such richness in understanding the complete historic perspective of God’s gift of the Eucharist.
Home run for Dr. Pitre. I am blown away by how understandable Dr. Pitre makes everything. This was the first Catholic book we read when we started our group study. We were so happy with Dr. Pitre's writing, that we immediately went onto another one of Dr. Pitre's books and then onto one of his DVD sets. Each experience helped us all grow closer to Christ ! This week I am now getting together with another group (of 20) to discuss this book. I am excited to hear their reaction. Keep writing Dr. Pitre. We Catholics need your voice and your pen.
PS - The world is hurting. Write more on forgiveness...... also a book on how God guides us to make good decisions and how to feel His presence in our every day life..... would be nice... Thank you. God bless you !
